Connecting graduates in the Liverpool City Region with local SMEs

Love Liverpool? Want to see the city flourish, and at the same time, accelerate your career?

We’ve joined up with a host of exciting companies based in Liverpool who are on the up, and on the hunt for talented grads.

Our team will help place you with the company and the job that is right for you.

We’re investing in our community. Backing local business. Choosing YOU.

What is an SME?

(Small or medium-sized enterprise)

An SME is a small or medium-sized company that employs between 50 and 250 people. SMEs represent 99% of all businesses in the EU.

Why work for an SME?

Working for an SME has some real benefits over working for a large corporate or international company...

  • With smaller teams and less employees, you’ll have more responsibility and be exposed to more, sooner.
  • SMEs have a more personable culture, with less distance between junior, senior and management staff.
  • There is greater scope for personal growth and development.

“I joined an SME after graduating. I’d only applied to big-name grad schemes, but then I found the SME, and it made SO much more sense. I realised I’d have more exposure and responsibility in a smaller company, and that’s exactly how it’s worked out! 5 years of development has been packed into just 3 years.”

How it works

Two Streams

There are two streams available, Marketing and Business Operations and Technical.

Which path will you take?

The Marketing and Business Operations Stream is open to grads from ALL degree disciplines with an interest in pursuing a career with a marketing focus. The Technical Stream will require more specific qualifications, in areas like Engineering, Computer Science and more. For more details on Technical roles available, please see job descriptions.

Application & Assessment

Once you’ve chosen a stream, there is a short application and assessment process. Assessment Centres will include interviews and a group exercise. If you require any reasonable adjustments or advice on the application process, we are here to help!

Get in touch by emailing lcrgradscheme@liverpool.ac.uk.

Finding Your SME

If you’re successful at the assessment centre, you’ll be invited to attend final-round interviews. Our team will help you find the role that best fits your talents, personality and career aspirations.

Induction

After receiving an offer from one of the registered SMEs to join the LCR Grad Scheme, you’ll attend a two-day induction where you will start your training and meet your fellow LCR Grads. Your Grad Scheme starts here!

Professional Development

You will be enrolled on a six-month professional development programme to accelerate your progression within your role. And in the first year of your role, you will complete an additional NVQ qualification in an area which will benefit your new company.
